Study programme at WUR: Economics and Governance
Study period exchange: 11/02/2019 until 26/07/2019
Country (exchange): Italy
City (exchange): Milan
University (exchange): Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
Faculty (exchange): Social Sciences
2. Motivation for exchange
Why did you choose to go on study exchange?
I wanted to experience living abroad. I was also interested in courses that I was not able to follow in Wageningen. Next to this I also just wanted something new, as my life in Wageningen was pretty much always the same.
What is the reason you chose for this country/university?
I wanted to go to the South of Europe as I really like the culture over there. I wanted to follow social science courses that were not focused on the environment or nature. Lastly I wanted to experience life in a big city, so Milan seemed like a good option.
4. University and studying
Could you provide some general information about the followed courses?

How is the study formalized?
This depends on the class. You have multiple examination moments which you can choose from, when you fail you can do the next one too.
What is the culture of the university?
Lecturers are approachable and nice!
What does the university offer the student additionally?
There is a university doctor who is really helpful.
5.Housing-travelling-living
What are the possibilities for housing?
I don’t recommend getting help from the uni, because it’s expensive. Use websites like uniplaces or Facebook groups instead.
What is the culture of the country like?
Exactly what you expect, more relaxed and a lower level of organization. Although Milan is a lot more similar to Holland than the rest of the country.
Could you give a general price indication of the place of residence compared to living in Wageningen?
Depends on what you want from your room, but it starts around €400/€450. I had a room for myself in a good apartment building for €620.
Could you give some information about public transport infrastructure?
A public transportation card is monthly around €22. Buy it, you travel a lot by metro!
6. Free time
What are must-sees in the area?
Go to the lakes nearby by train! They are really nice! And for the bigger cities you can take cheap flixbuses!
What does not appear in the travel guide, but is worth a visit?
Colonnes de Saint Laurent, and the street that goes towards it, when you walk from Navigli.
Do you have general tips and tricks about leisure time?
For going out Old Fashion is really nice, especially in summer as it is outside! For pizza I recommend Rossopomodoro, pasta and tiramisu Miscusi and for aperitivo Locanda Davinci.
7.Challenges & best moment abroad
What was a challenge you have experienced?
Making friends that I really clicked with did not happen in the first week. Take your time to meet people that really fit you well.
What was your best memory abroad?
The people I met and the adventures I had with them, from going out to going on trips.
