2. Motivation for exchange

Why did you choose to go on study exchange?

I found it interesting to see how education was organised in another country. On top of that I was really excited to meet so many new people from all over the world.

What is the reason you chose for this country/university?

On high school I followed Greek courses, that is why I am so interested in the country. I have never been there before and the idea of combining my first trip there with studying got me excited.

3. Accessibility to reach destination

Do you have any tips to reach your exchange destination?

Flying is the easiest option.

4. University and studying

Could you provide some general information about the followed courses?

How is the study formalized?

You only have lessons with your fellow International students most of the time. This is because all the courses at the university are normally given in Greek.

What is the culture of the university?

At the WUR all our courses are given in English so any International student can just join in. However at the university in Greece everything is given in Greek so it is impossible to follow courses with Greek students.

What does the university offer the student additionally?

Free Gym and canteen card. With this card you can have free breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

5. Housing-travelling-living

What are the possibilities for housing?

Join the Facebook group and you will see a lot of options. I got a room via the website www.stayinathens.com

What is the culture of the country like?

Everything differs from Holland, from the food (Pita, Greek salad, tzatziki) to their habits and work vision.

Could you give a general price indication of the place of residence compared to living in Wageningen?

I paid 290 Euro each month, which was the normal price to pay.

Could you give some information about public transport infrastructure?

You can get a subway card at Syntagma station by showing your Greek student card. For 3 months is was 43 Euro.

6. Free time

What are must-sees in the area?

Walk around the city!! Filopappou Hill, Acropolis (duh), Agora’s, Temple of Zeus.

What does not appear in the travel guide, but is worth a visit?

Penteli Waterfall.

Do you have general tips and tricks about leisure time?

Try Rakomelo (it’s a drink), go to Teniako, climb the Lycabettus hill and Six dogs (great bar).

7. Challenges & best moment abroad

What was a challenge you have experienced?

In the Spring semester there were only two other Dutch girls. Everyone got someone or mostly multiple from there own country, but I did not. Sometimes this was a bit of a challenge.
